Amid reports that hinted towards the Pakistan cricket team’s apprehensions of playing the World Cup T20 in India due to security concerns, BCCI secretary Anurag Thakur clarified on Wednesday that “no country should feel insecure” about playing in India and they will provide “highest possible security” to all.
“BCCI will organise the World Cup in the nicest possible way and will provide every team with the highest protection. Earlier also we have hosted many World Cups and international matches and I don’t think any country should feel insecure here,” Thakur told reporters in New Delhi, reported PTI.
Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) chief Shahryar Khan had said earlier that a during the ICC meeting in Dubai last week to play Pakistan’s matches at a neutral venue next month, if the government decides not to allow the team to tour India.
When asked by reporters about the statements made by Shahryar Khan, the BCCI secretary stated that India will provide complete security to all teams and if any country has any issues, then they need to decide about it.
“Bilateral series is totally a different topic but in the World Cup teams from across the world will come and participate. Pakistan is one among those 16 teams and the Indian government will provide complete security to all the teams. I think all the qualifying teams should come and participate in the World Cup. India is ready and if any country has some issues then they need to decide about it,” he said, reported PTI.
The 2016 ICC World T20 is scheduled to take place in India from March 8 to April 3 with the marquee clash between India and Pakistan taking place on March 19 at Dharamsala.
