Dhawan and Gambhir provide contrasting views on pink ball

Shikhar Dhawan, who was part of the India Red side which lost in the final of the Duleep Trophy to India Blue, insisted that he had 'no issues' with the pink ball. However, India Blue captain Gautam Gambhir is not convinced and maintains that “Test cricket should be played with the red ball”.

“It’s an experiment, let us give it some time. You will get two different views because one team did well and one did not.

“Personally I had no issues,” Dhawan was quoted as saying by the Hindu.

However, the Duleep Trophy-winning captain, Gautam Gambhir, remains unconvinced by the pink ball experiment. The veteran batsman feels that traditions should be honored.

“I’m a traditionalist and I believe that Test cricket should be played with the red ball,” he said. On selection matters, Gambhir said: “You can’t be thinking of things not under your control. When you have bat or ball in your hand you think of performing and not about selectors,” Gambhir said.

Dhawan also provided his opinion on the touring New Zealand side, and the southpaw believes that the visitors have enough quality bowlers in their side to compete in Indian conditions.

“New Zealand have some good players, like their captain (Kane Williamson) and (Tim) Southee. They can make an impact in the series. On spinning pitches, the New Zealand spinners can also do a/ good job. I believe Mitchell Santner, who bowled well in the World T20, is there,” Dhawan added.
