Brendon McCullum's bat gives way during BBL win

The trend of bats breaking in the 2016-17 Big Bash League continued as Brendon McCullum had to get a replacement midway through his innings after his willow broke right down the middle. Previously Adam Zampa's bat handle had come off after the batsman hit the willow into the ground.

The incident occurred in the game-changing 13th over of the Big Bash between Perth Scorchers and the Brisbane Heat. Chasing 174 for victory, Heat needed 44 to win off 48 deliveries and Andrew Tye came on to bowl for Scorchers.

When the former Kiwi opener got the strike, his teammate Chris Lynn had already cleared the boundary in the over. McCullum used his wrists to put the ball past the deep backward square-leg boundary for a massive 104m six.

Tye's next ball was a full toss just outside off-stump and BMac could not resist the temptation. However, the willow could not handle two big shots off consecutive balls and it just shattered right down the middle.

McCullum not only helped Heat win the match but the team have now moved to the top of the table and are likely to stay there for a while due to their brilliant net run-rate.
