In the 43-day tour, India will play three Tests, five One-Day Internationals, and one Twenty20 International against the hosts. After the Test series ending on 16th August, the jamboree will move to Dambulla, which will host the first ODI on August 20. The teams will again return to Kandy for the next two ODIs before returning to Colombo to play the final two ODIs and the lone T20I of the series.
Recently, both the teams faced each other in the Champions Trophy, where Sri Lanka pulled off an upset by beating India by seven wickets. But Sri Lanka, who are now languishing at the eighth position in the ICC ODI rankings, have to be at the top of their game to beat India.
Sri Lanka will also be under tremendous pressure in the Test series as they are struggling in the seventh position, while India are the No. 1 side after a successful home season where they defeated New Zealand, England, Bangladesh, and Australia. India, too, had defeated them 2-1 in their last tour in 2015, which was their first series win on Lankan soil since 1993.
Currently, India are in the West Indies for a limited-overs tour, where they completed a 3-1 series victory yesterday, and will play a one-off T20I on Sunday at Sabina Park in Jamaica.
