According to the reports, chief selector MSK Prasad has indicated that Sanju Samson’s name would be considered for the upcoming limited-overs matches against Sri Lanka. After the three Tests, India are scheduled to play three ODIs and the same number of T20I matches against the island nation.

Chairman of national selection committee MSK Prasad seemed extremely happy with Samson’s performance this season, and has confirmed that they are keeping as an option.

"It's good to see that Sanju Samson has been amongst the runs this season. He has been consistent. It augurs well for him and it's good for us since we will have more options to deliberate on," Prasad told TOI.

There are many factors which could support the 23-year-old player, who made his debut for India in a T20I against Zimbabwe in 2015. Keeping an eye on the upcoming South Africa tour, selectors want to give rest to some regular players in the limited overs Indian side, which includes skipper Virat Kohli’s name.

This will give an opportunity for the other players who can play to fill in the vacant places in both batting and bowling departments. After the series against New Zealand, critics have raised questions over MS Dhoni’s place in the limited overs squad. However, it would be a tough decision for the selectors to drop the former skipper for the series. Rishabh Pant’s on and off performance has also forced selectors to think of Samson’s name.

The Kerala player is currently the third highest run-scorer in the ongoing Ranji season as he scored 561 runs from five innings at an average of 62.33. He also had an experience of playing against the Lankans when he led the Board President's XI against Sri Lanka in a warm-up game in Kolkata, where he played a knock of 128 runs.

The leg of limited series will start from December 10 at Dharamsala.
