IPL 2019 | No secrets, my hardwork in last one year is paying off, says Shreyas Gopal

Shreyas Gopal has said that there are no secrets in his performance and all the efforts he put in for last one year has paid off. Gopal has also added that he was so delighted after picking up the wickets of Virat Kohli and AB de Villiers where he was just trying to restrict them with his googlies.

In the 14th match of this year’s IPL, Royal Challengers Bangalore underwent a terrible blow by losing their star players Virat Kohli and AB de Villiers early in the innings. RCB managed to score only 158 in 20 overs, where RCB's wicket-keeper Parthiv Patel played well by hitting 67 of 41 balls with nine fours and one six. Rajasthan Royals managed to reach the target with only one ball to spare.

Shreyas Gopal was outstanding in that game as he got rid of the star players Kohli and de Villiers. The Bengaluru bowler was stingy and maintained an economy rate of three and scalped three wickets as well. The right arm leg break bowler has taken eight wickets so far for his team in this edition of IPL with an economy rate of 6.60. He said that there are no secrets behind his performance and what is paying off for him is his efforts and hard work in last one year.

"There was no plan for them (Kohli and de Villiers). You can't make any plan for such great batsmen. I just wanted to bowl a googly and keep it tight as possible. They misread the line of the ball and I was fortunate to get their wickets," Gopal told IANS.

"There is no secret. I am just happy that my hard work in the past one year is paying off. Despite the kind of result we are getting as a team, personally, I had a decent season from the start and will just try to continue and get even better.”

Started his career as a middle-order batsman, Gopal has been a good performer as a leggie for his home state Karnataka and the IPL teams as well. Having some good players like Steven Smith, Jos Butler and Ajinkya Rahane, the Royals have failed to perform well due to simple mistakes.

"Except our game against Kolkata Knight Riders, we could have possibly won all the games as we are just losing few moments in the matches. It is probably the crucial moments which we are not winning and it is important to win those crucial moments. In most of our games so far, we have dominated throughout the match, but certain key moments cost us the match," Gopal explained.
