Sunil Joshi applies for bowling coach position citing India's need of spin specialist

Sunil Joshi, former Indian legspinner, has applied for the position of the Indian team’s bowling coach’s job stating that the Virat Kohli-led side needs a specialist in the spin department. He was coaching the Bangladesh team for more than two and a half years and is ready for the next challenge.
The Indian team has not had an expert spin consultant since Anil Kumble in 2017, who was basically the head coach before he quit due to major differences with captain Virat Kohli.
Joshi is famous for his exceptional bowling performance in an ODI match against South Africa in the LG Cup in 1999. He produced remarkable figures of 10–6–6–5 helping India secure a win in that game. Three years later following that performance, he was rated in the Wisden 100 as the seventh-best ODI bowling performance to that date.
“Yes, I have applied (for bowling coach). After a fruitful two and a half year stint with Bangladesh, I am ready for the next challenge. India have not had a specialist spin coach for a while and hopefully, that is where my expertise will be considered,” said Joshi, as quoted by the PTI.
“If you see, most international teams have specialists as part of their support staff. Be it a pace bowling coach or spin coach. The Indian team too needs one. It is the need of the hour, it does not matter whether it is me or someone else,” said the veteran legspinner, whose stint with Bangladesh ended with the World Cup.
His two and a half years stint with Bangladesh ended with the conclusion of the ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup 2019.
