Steve Smith is all set to play in the tour match against Derbyshire starting on August 29, after successfully recovering from his post-concussion jerk. Earlier today, for the first time in almost a week, Smith had an extended session in the nets, giving Aussies hope ahead of the fourth Test.

Australia have been handed a major boost ahead of the fourth Test against England at Manchester, with talisman Steve Smith all set to return to the playing XI. Earlier today, the New South Welshman was seen batting in the nets against bowlers for the first time in almost a week. Smith was declared unfit for the ongoing Headingley Test after he showed signs of distress and discomfort a day ahead of the Test after getting hit on the neck by a brutal Jofra Archer bouncer.

“Steve Smith batted against bowlers for the first time today (Sunday). The session lasted 25 minutes. He also did some high intensity running," an Australian team spokesman was quoted as saying by Hindustan Times.

“He will continue to be assessed but is expected to play in the tour match at Derby," he added.

There will be a nine-day gap between the third and fourth Test, during which the Aussies will play a three-day warmup game against Derbyshire at Derby. The addition of Smith might turn out to be a gamechanger for the Aussies, with the New South Welshman having scored two centuries and a 90 in the three innings he batted in this Ashes.
