On Thursday, the Indian Premier League Twitter handle shared a photo of Gaikwad stating him as the new captain of CSK. He was a part of the group photo shoot that included captains from all the franchises. And a few minutes later, even the CSK official social media handle confirmed the same.

This is not the first time that CSK opted for an alternative captaincy choice of Dhoni as Ravindra Jadeja had a short burst before the former was reappointed. While the former Indian skipper captained CSK for 226 matches and won 133 of them with a win percentage of 58.84, this will be Gaikwad’s first IPL captaincy stint, having led India in the 2023 Emerging Asian Games and for Maharashtra.
