There’s no substitute for calmness when it comes to making better decisions. Ruturaj Gaikwad is one of the best examples to exemplify a composed mind on a cricket field but the Maharashtra batter ended up losing his cool due to the umpire’s stubbornness over the ball’s shape in the Irani Trophy.

Eyeing to take early wickets with the help of the moisture in the morning session, Mukesh Kumar did not disappoint with the new red rock. He broke through the Mumbai top-order removing Prithwi Shaw, Ayush Mhatre, and Hardik Tamore in his opening spell to leave Mumbai at 37/3. With Shreyas Iyer and Ajinkya Rahane at the crease, the experienced duo stabilised the stage by carefully negating the bowlers before an argument broke over in the opposition with the umpire.

After bowling three dots in the 29th over, Mukesh bowled a short ball at Rahane who tapped it down with soft hands. Right after, the ball was handed to Gaikwad who had a look at the ball and had a conversation with umpire Saiyed Khalid. While the umpire was hesitant to alter the ball despite the ball not passing through the rim properly. However, after his teammates requested, the reserve umpire was seen ambling into the field with a box of balls. However, the replaced ball seemed to be not passing the rim test as well, prompting Gaikwad in a heated argument with the umpire. Soon after, he also handed the ball to Ishan Kishan, the wicketkeeper, who was unhappy with the shape of the cork as well. Eventually, Khalid seemed obstinate with his thoughts and denied the Rest of India for another change of ball.
