PBKS vs KKR | Twitter laughs as Bartlett turns his debut into comedy classic with brain fade run out

Absent-mindedness can sometimes bring unintended laughs, and Punjab Kings’ Xavier Bartlett provided just that. In a chaotic end to their innings, Bartlett was hilariously run out after a confused mix-up, capping off Punjab’s collapse at 111 at Punjab’s newly built Mullanpur Stadium.

‌Punjab Kings got off to a flying start after skipper Shreyas Iyer won the toss and chose to bat, reaching 33/0 in three overs, but a dramatic collapse followed with Harshit Rana, Varun Chakaravarthy, and Sunil Narine dismantling their top and middle order. By the end of the powerplay, Punjab were reeling at 54/4, and things worsened as they slumped to 86/8 by the 11th over with no batter showing real resistance. Only Shashank Singh provided some fight, helping the team barely cross the 100-run mark by the 14th over in an otherwise dismal batting display. Unfortunately, their innings ended with the run-out of Xavier Bartlett’s hilarious run-out.

On the final delivery of the innings, Vaibhav Arora fired in a full, straight ball which Bartlett drove firmly down the ground, immediately calling for a second run. However, Venkatesh Iyer swooped in from long-on, fired a precise throw to the non-striker’s end, and Bartlett, too focused on watching the ball instead of his partner’s call, was caught off guard. Arora removed the bails swiftly, and Bartlett’s mix-up led to a comical run-out that quickly grabbed attention on social media.

There’s often a special aura when a player faces his former team. But for Shreyas Iyer, the script didn’t go as planned against his ex-team at Mullanpur as his impressive run in this season came to a halt as he was dismissed cheaply, undone by Ramandeep Singh’s brilliance in the field.
