Match Report

Tom Banton and Joe Root started with brilliant knocks, smashing some crucial and impactful boundaries off the Brave’s strike bowlers. Banton scored 42 runs off just 29 balls, with six fours and a six, alongside Joe Root’s 34 runs off 27 balls, with three fours and a six. Their knocks stabilized the starting phase for the Rockets to post a good total on the board. Later, around the end of the innings, Marcus Stoinis took charge of the attack, scoring 23 (16), alongside the shorter contributions from David Willey (11) and Max Holden (12). On the backs of these contributions, Trent Rockets managed to score 151/8 in 100 balls. Jofra Archer ended up as the most successful bowler for the Brave, scalping three wickets for just 22 runs in 20 balls. He was accompanied by Craig Overton’s figures of 2/26 in 20 balls. Michael Bracewell also added a brief contribution, picking a wicket for 18 runs in 15 balls.

While chasing the target, Jason Roy’s quick start came to an end when he failed to judge Willey’s delivery, and the inside edge went straight into the stumps. It ended his 15-run knock off 12 balls, in which he also smashed three fours. Following Roy’s dismissal, skipper James Vince stitched an important 33-run partnership for the second wicket with the number three batter, Leus du Plooy. This partnership was mainly dominated by Vince as he smashed some brilliant boundaries. Du Plooy’s dismissal ended this partnership, as he went back to the pavilion after scoring 14 runs off 11 balls, with two fours. Then came a game-changing partnership of 51 runs for the third wicket between James Vince and Laurie Evans. Both the batters punished the Rockets’ bowling attack brutally. Vince completed his half-century, scoring 55 runs off 39 balls, with six fours and two sixes. Evans also came up with a blistering approach in this partnership, playing an unbeaten knock of 39 runs off 24 balls, with four fours and two sixes. After Vince’s departure, Cartwright accompanied Evans, with an unbeaten 15-run knock off nine balls, hitting two fours. The Rockets’ bowlers couldn’t make an impact while defending the target, as Willey, Ahmed, and Ferguson could claim only a wicket each.

With this win, the Southern Brave have also moved to the second spot in the tournament’s points table, getting four more points added to their name.

Player of the Match

Southern Brave’s skipper James Vince won the ‘Player of the Match’ award for his brilliant captaincy knock of 55 runs off 39 balls. He led the Brave’s run chase with authority.
