Birmingham Phoenix and London Spirit to battle it out at Edgbaston on August 17 in the second game of the double header. While Phoenix will be needing the crucial win to stay away from the bottom of the table, Spirit will be looking to break their winless streak against them.

‌The second game of Super Sunday will take place at Edgbaston, where Birmingham Phoenix will be taking on London Spirit. This game is set to be a battle of legends with Spirit’s iconic top order batters in Kane Williamson and David Warner, going up against the experienced bowling attack of Phoenix, who possess the likes of Trent Boult and Tim Southee within their squad. This will also be a game with both teams having a lot on the line, with Phoenix needing some crucial points to stay away from the bottom of the points table and Spirit looking for their first win against them since the start of the tournament.

While the Liam Livingstone-led side might have a great record against them, they haven’t started their season well this year, with only one win and three losses to their name. The team has so far not lived up to the expectations of the last season, where they made it into the playoffs and finished second on the points table. Though the game against the Oval Invincibles was one of the entertaining games of the season so far, it still seems like a tough road ahead for them.

On the other hand, the Spirit are still stuck in the standing at fifth place on the points table with two wins and two losses to their name.  Though they have shown glimpses of great performances this season, with some great knocks from Warner and Jamie Smith, they have still not shown enough consistency. Though there were some disappointing defeats this season, there have also been some impressive wins, which include their last game against the Trent Rockets, where they won on the back of an incredible half-century by Smith and some terrific spells from their pace bowlers Richard Gleeson and Daniel Worrall.

Form Guide

Birmingham Phoenix’s recent form in the tournament has been terrible, especially after the loss against Northern Superchargers.

London Spirit are in a slightly similar position as well, having won only two of their last five games in the tournament

Pitch and Weather

The surface at Edgbaston is a balanced surface that has benefited both batters and bowlers in the last two games of matches of the tournament. While there are moments of good seam movement for the pacers and grip for the spinners in the first innings, the wicket seems to get easier to bat on in the second innings, making it an ideal wicket for chasing.

The weather at Birmingham is expected to be clear throughout the game with a bit of light breeze. The probable temperature at the venue is between 17 to 23 degrees Celsius.

Team News

Birmingham Phoenix will most likely make a change in their lower middle order by bringing in Aneurin Donald back into the lineup in place of Louis Kimber as he has underperformed in the last two games

London Spirit looked solid in their last game and are not expected to make any changes to their batting lineup.

Birmingham Probable XI: Ben Duckett, Will Smeed, Joe Clarke (wk), Liam Livingstone (c), Jacob Bethell, Aneurin Donald, Benny Howell, Chris Wood, Adam Milne, Tim Southee, Trent Boult.

London Spirit Probable XI: David Warner, Kane Williamson (c), Jamie Smith (wk), Ollie Pope, Ashton Turner, Sean Dickson, Jamie Overton, Liam Dawson, Luke Wood, Richard Gleeson, Daniel Worrall.
