Watch, MID vs SUR | Kane Williamson’s stunning catch at boundary leaves Jason Roy in disbelief

Fielders evading the boundary line to take blinders is commonplace in white-ball cricket, but Kane Williamson still gathered eyeballs with his effort during a Vitality Blast game. The former New Zealand skipper caught a powerful shot on the slide and managed to finish safely ahead of the rope.

‌Surrey continued their run at the top of the South Group of Vitality Blast Men 2025 season with a thrilling eight-run win over Middlesex at Lord’s on Wednesday. Batting first, Surrey made 189/9 in 20 overs with opener Will Jacks top-scoring for them with a 36-ball 52,  including two sixes and five fours. All-rounder Tom Curran helped the side accelerate their scoring towards the end, hitting seven fours and a six during his knock of 47 off 22 balls, while pacer Ryan Higgins ended with an impressive spell of 4/33 for Middlesex.

Middlesex could manage only 181/6 during the chase, with Stephen Eskinazi scoring a 38-ball 53. Though Higgins and Luke Hollman came up with entertaining cameos during their unbeaten 62-run partnership for the seventh wicket in just 29 balls, the team fell short by eight runs.

But Kane Williamson came up with an excellent moment on the field for the home fans to cheer about, despite their narrow loss. Middlesex got a breakthrough in the match, after a brisk start from Surrey, with the last ball of the sixth over as the score read 66.

They introduced leggie Luke Hollman in the next over to go up against the big-hitting Jason Roy. Having played two dots and a single in his first three, Roy decided to take the attack to the opposition. He went for a powerful lofted shot over extra cover off Hollman’s flighted delivery outside off stump, but to his horror found Williamson running from wide mid-off.

The former New Zealand skipper sprinted towards his left before taking the catch on the slide. But his momentum and the force of the ball tended to push him towards the ropes. But the Kiwi balanced himself admirably before showing great presence of mind to lift both his legs to avoid contact with the boundary cushion.

Roy was shocked and watched in disbelief as Williamson completed the slide and catch successfully before shaking his head and slowly starting his walk back.

That's a stunner!
