WPL | Twitter in awe as Dottin's perfect inswinger humiliates Voll on her WPL debut

For a 21-year-old playing in the biggest franchise league in the world, the hope would be to start as they mean to go on but Deandra Dottin had other plans in Lucknow on Monday. The Caribbean superstar ensured Georgia Voll's debut would be one to forget with a phenomenal inswinger.

G‌ujarat Giants set the UP Warriorz a formidable target of 187, in the first ever Women's Premier League game to be played at the BRSABV Ekana Stadium in Lucknow, on the back of Beth Mooney's unbeateen 96 off 59 deliveries as well as a quick 45 from Harleen Deol. However, with the pitch playing flat and the quality of the hosts' batting unit, the Giants seemed to have their work cut out for defending the total but Deandra Dottin quickly put all doubts to rest with a scintillating first over.

The West Indian all-rounder opened her account with a wily outswinger that took the outside edge of Kira Navgire's tentatively raised bat and flew to Ashleigh Gardner at first slip but the best was yet to come. Just three deliveries later, Dottin delivered the Kookaburra with the seam pointing towards fine leg, a subtle change Georgia Voll failed to pick up on. The ball pitched on a length well outside off-stump, only to swing back in miles and breach the gap between the bat and pad of the Australian batter. What made things worse was that Voll was making her tournament debut having come in as an injury replacement for Chamari Athapaththu and had to settle for a three-ball duck in her maiden appearance for the Warriorz.

Twitter, meanwhile, was more busy celebrating the delivery with some even labelling it the wicket of the tournament.
