Cricket is one of the rare sports in the world where the conditions play a great part in the game. The pitch at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad seemed a tricky one for the batters in the Gujarat Titans versus Mumbai Indians encounter, due to which Suryakumar Yadav received a nasty bumper.

Winning the toss and fielding first, the Titans got off to a 66-run powerplay before B Sai Sudharsan’s 61 steered them to 196/8 in 20 overs. In response, the Mumbai Indians got off to a 48-run powerplay despite losing a couple of scalps before Tilak Varma and Suryakumar Yadav’s 62-run partnership made stabilised the stage. But Varma fell prey to the required run rate pressure halfway through the innings, and Prasidh Krishna added woes to MI’s sudden batting fallout by knocking down Suryakumar with a slower bouncer.

MI’s scoreboard reflected 108/4 in 13 overs when Krishna came to bowl his second over and knocked down Surya on the first ball itself. He came over the wicket and sprayed an off-cutter on a back of a length. Due to his high-arm release, the ball kicked off the surface to hit the grill of Surya, who tried to shuffle across the line and pull it. As the ball thudded his helmet, Surya fell flat at the ground before the physios sprinted in to have a concussion check, triggering a Twitterverse frenzy.

That was scary!

Yeah!

He got nothing serious!

Boom!

All good!

Massive blow!

It could have!

He fought!
