Match Report
With a crucial game for both the teams, Mumbai Indians used all their experience to pull out a thrilling eight-run win over Delhi Capitals to seal their entry into the IPL 2025 playoffs. It was a clinical performance from MI with Suryakumar Yadav and Rohit Sharma shining with the bat while Jasprit Bumrah stood apart with his excellent spell to turn the tide the home side’s way.
After being put in to bat, Mumbai Indians got off to a brisk start with Rohit Sharma looking fluent and his 61 off 34 provided the early impetus. Though Ryan Rickelton and Will Jacks chipped in, it was the dynamic Suryakumar Yadav who stole the show — unleashing a 74-run blitz off 35 balls. His placement and innovation tore through DC’s bowlers, especially in the middle overs. MI reached 212 in their allotted 20 overs, thanks to handy cameos from Hardik Pandya and Tilak Varma. Kuldeep Yadav was the pick among DC bowlers, controlling the chaos with a crucial spell of 2/29.
In the chase, Delhi Capitals began well with Faf du Plessis and Karun Nair putting together a quick 40, but Ashwani Kumar’s double strike slowed down the proceedings. KL Rahul anchored the innings, stitching small partnerships and keeping the asking rate within reach. However, despite Rahul’s half-century and Axar’s short burst, Bumrah’s brilliance in the death — particularly a two-wicket 19th over — proved decisive as DC fell short chasing 24 off the last 2 overs.
Player of the Match
Suryakumar Yadav’s 74 (35) to accelerate MI’s innings during the middle-overs, after coming in at number four, scoring four sixes and seven fours won him the player of the match award.
