Cricket-s stop-start nature has meant sledging has become a fixture in global cricket, no battles more intense than that between pacers and battes. Mohammed Siraj sought to take advantage of the same on Thursday by chirping down Nicholas Pooran in Ahmedabad, only to be punished with interest.

Lucknow Super Giants rode on the back of a scintillating Mitchell Marsh century, with Aiden Markram and Nicholas Pooran playing support acts through rapid half-centuries, to post a mammoth total of 235/2 on the board against the Gujarat Titans on Thursday. Pooran by far had the best strike rate amongst the trio, his unbeaten 56 off just 27 deliveries featuring as many as four boundaries and five maximums, two of which came imn a theatrical 16th over against Mohammed Siraj.

The GT pacer had conceded just 17 in his first three overs and looked like Shubman Gill's best bet to break through the Marsh-Pooran stand at the death. However, a boundary from the Aussie first up followed by another from Pooran two balls later left the right-arm quick on the backfoot but Siraj was not content to admit defeat as easily. He steamed in thereafte ran dproduced  anasty bumper to Pooran but the Kookaburra flew over the southpaw's head and was promptly called a wide. However, Siraj could not care less, as he lingered in his follow-through and chirped at the batter before walking back to his mark. Another bouncer followed, this time sharp enough to beat Pooran but low enough to be deemed a legal delivery and Siraj was never going to let the opportunity slip to give the batter a peace of his mind. Pooran, quiet throughout the endeavour, simply waited for his opportunity which duly arrived immediately after and Pooran pounced on the loose deliveries to smash a six and a four to bring a disastrous end to Siraj's final over.

Yet, despite all the runs and bragging rights, Pooran chose to stay quiet and let his bat do the talking to amuse Twitterati.
