In the 2025 summer transfer window, Aston Villa have made it clear that captain John McGinn is not for sale, following an £18 million bid from Everton which was promptly rejected. Despite additional interest from Newcastle United, no formal approach has been made by the Magpies. McGinn, 30, remains a key figure for Unai Emery’s side. Everton manager David Moyes is keen to bring the Scotland international to Goodison Park, citing his leadership and versatility as valuable assets.
However, Villa are determined to retain McGinn, who still has two years left on his contract, set to expire in 2027. He made 49 appearances last season across all competitions, contributing four goals and six assists. Meanwhile, Villa have secured the services of left-back Lucas Digne for the long term, handing him a new contract until 2028. Digne played 45 games in the previous campaign, providing six assists.
Several other core squad members, including Matty Cash, Jacob Ramsey, Youri Tielemans, Leon Bailey, and Emi Buendía, have under two years remaining on their current deals, raising future contract considerations for the club. Aston Villa appear focused on squad stability heading into a new season in which Sky Sports will broadcast a record 215 live Premier League games.
