Manchester United’s chase for Brighton midfielder Carlos Baleba faces hurdles due to his £100m-plus valuation and Brighton’s reluctance to sell. United’s PSR position hinges on player exits, with Marcus Rashford already loaned to Barcelona, saving £12m in wages. Potential sales of Alejandro Garnacho to Chelsea and Rasmus Hojlund could boost hopes before the September 1 deadline.

For the ongoing summer transfer window, Manchester United’s hopes of landing Brighton midfielder Carlos Baleba are heavily dependent on outgoings. The club has struggled to generate funds through sales, with only Marcus Rashford leaving so far, joining Barcelona on loan and saving around £12 million in wages. Brighton are reluctant to sell Baleba, placing a £100 million-plus valuation on the 20-year-old, who has quickly established himself as one of the Premier League’s most promising midfielders.

To improve their Profit and Sustainability Rules (PSR) position, United need player sales before the September 1 deadline. Reports suggest Alejandro Garnacho is a major target for Chelsea, and his potential permanent move would represent pure profit due to his homegrown status. Meanwhile, Rasmus Hojlund could depart after losing his place under new boss Ruben Amorim, with Italian clubs and even Fulham linked with the striker.

United’s defeat to Arsenal showed signs of progress under Amorim, but more reinforcements are necessary, particularly in midfield and in goal. Other sale candidates include Jadon Sancho, Antony, and Tyrell Malacia. If Garnacho and Hojlund leave, United could yet test Brighton’s resolve over Baleba before the window closes, though the price remains the main obstacle.
