Arsenal secured a dramatic 2-1 Premier League victory over Newcastle at St James’ Park on September 28, 2025. Newcastle led through Nick Woltemade’s 34th-minute header, but Arsenal equalised via Mikel Merino in the 84th. Gabriel scored a stoppage-time winner in the 96th minute, helping Arsenal climb to second with 13 points from six games, while Newcastle remain 15th with six points.

After the dramatic Premier League clash at St James’ Park, Arsenal secured a 2-1 victory over Newcastle United thanks to a stoppage-time header from defender Gabriel. The late winner allowed Arsenal to climb to second place in the table with 13 points from six matches, just two points behind leaders Liverpool, while Newcastle remained in 15th with six points. Newcastle had taken the lead in the 34th minute when Nick Woltemade met a short-corner cross to head in, following a misjudged back-pass from Arsenal’s Cristhian Mosquera.

Arsenal struggled to break through, being denied by Newcastle goalkeeper Nick Pope’s excellent saves and missing several scoring opportunities. A controversial VAR decision early in the match also overturned a potential penalty for Arsenal after Viktor Gyokeres was stopped by Pope.

Arsenal’s persistence paid off in the final stages. In the 84th minute, Mikel Merino headed in Declan Rice’s cross to equalize. Then, six minutes into added time, Gabriel rose above the defenders to convert Martin Odegaard’s corner, securing a dramatic win for the visitors. The result highlighted Arsenal’s ability to score late goals this season and demonstrated their resilience despite moments of frustration and defensive lapses.
