Mumbai Indians beat Sunrisers Hyderabad by seven wickets to climb to third place on the points table. Trent Boult led the bowling attack with a brilliant four-fer, restricting SRH to 143/8 while Rohit Sharma anchored the chase with 70 off 46 balls, guiding Mumbai to victory in just 15.4 overs.

Opting to bowl first, MI had an excellent start with the new ball duo of Deepak Chahar and Trent Boult picking a wicket apiece within the first three overs. The left-arm pacer was the first to strike as he sent back Travis Head for a four-ball duck, caught by Naman Dhir at deep point. In the very next over, Chahar caught up with his senior pro by dismissing Ishan Kishan caught down the leg. The left-handed batter walked off his own volition only to find out later that there was no edge. The procession of SRH batters walking back to the pavilion continued with Boult getting the better of Abhishek Sharma with a pace-off delivery and Chahar getting his second of the night in Nitish Kumar Reddy. Incidentally, the host had their worst powerplay score of 24/4 in IPL 2025. However, Klaasen found form at the right time to bail out the home team with a timely half-century. The South African batter top-scored for SRH with a 44-ball 71, an innings studded with nine fours and two sixes. Abhinav Manohar, who came in as an impact substitute after the batting collapse, played a perfect fiddle to the wicketkeeper-batter as the duo put on 99 off 63 balls for the sixth wicket. Just as the Karnataka batter was looking to take the orange army past the 150-mark, Boult picked up two wickets off the last three balls to restrict them to 143/8.

In response, MI lost Ryan Rickleton to a wonderful caught and bowled effort by Jaydev Unadkat in the second over, but Rohit Sharma continued from where he left off in the last match against CSK. The vintage pull shot and the inside out loft flowed out of the Mumbai batterโ€™s armoury as SRH bowlers felt the heat. Will Jacks was not to be left behind as the pair took the visitors to 56/1 after the first six overs. The Indian captain brought up his second fifty of the tournament in the 11th over, off only 35 balls, putting MI in the driverโ€™s seat to finish proceedings. With the equation reduced to 59 runs off the final nine overs, it was left to Rohit and Suryakumar Yadav to close the match at the earliest and boost the net run rate. The pair did the same by notching up 15 runs off Zeeshan Ansari in the next over. The MI opener then hit three fours off Harshal Patel, picking up another 15-run over but unfortunately could not see MI through as he got out in the 15th over after scoring 70 off 46 balls. However, his innings, which included eight fours and three sixes, left them within touching distance. Surya finished the match in style with a boundary as the visitors wrapped up the match with 26 balls to spare. With that win, MI moved to third in the points table with 10 points from nine matches. SRH, however, will need a miracle to make it to the playoffs as they languish at ninth with four points.
