ENG-W vs WI-W Match Preview | Dominant England eye series sweep as West Indies fight to stay afloat

Hayley Matthews stole the spotlight in the previous match with a blistering 100 off just 67 balls, but to no avail. It was England’s Sophia Dunkley’s 81 off 56 which led the charge for England’s batting as the visitors, led by Mathews, will now look to bounce back at Hove ground.

‌England Women have taken a 1-0 lead in the three-match T20I series with a commanding win in the opening encounter. Chasing 147 for victory, they lost Danielle Wyatt and Nat Sciver-Brunt early, but Sophia Dunkley and Heather Knight steadied the innings with a composed partnership. Dunkley top-scored with a fluent 81 off 56 balls, while Knight added a crucial 43, guiding the hosts to a comfortable eight-wicket win in the 17th over.

Earlier, West Indies Women posted 146/7 after opting to bat first. Despite early setbacks with Qiana Joseph and Zaida James falling cheaply, captain Hayley Matthews held the innings together with a brilliant century, scoring 100 off just 67 deliveries. Her lone effort with the bat lifted West Indies to a competitive total. With the ball, Zaida James claimed one wicket, while Lauren Bell stood out for England with two scalps.

Pitch and Weather:

The County Ground in Hove tends to favour batters, owing to its even bounce and flat surface, with teams averaging 131 runs in the first innings. While batting is generally comfortable, seamers may find early movement, particularly when bowling under lights. Considering the ground’s recent pattern, teams winning the toss often choose to field first. Weather conditions on match day are expected to be partly cloudy, with a temperature of around 14°C. Humidity will remain high at approximately 75%, and there's a slight 20% chance of rain.
