It is rare to see both batters in the middle undergo a brainfade, but the Hong Kong openers suffered the same during their Asia Cup 2025 game against Afghanistan. Anshy Rath failed to take the review, though there was a huge gap between bat and ball, after he was given out caught behind.

‌Afghanistan reached a formidable 188/6 in their 20 overs after opting to bat first against Hong Kong in the Asia Cup T20 2025 game at Zayed Cricket Stadium in Abu Dhabi. Sediqullah Atal and Azmatullah Omarzai completed swashbuckling half-centuries to power the Afghans to a competitive total after the side was sitting in a tricky situation at 119/4 in 16 overs.

The Hong Kong side had a worse start in pursuit of 189, losing opener Anshy Rath for a golden duck in the second ball of the match. The left-handed opener tried chasing a wide outswinging delivery from pacer Fazalhaq Farooqi, with umpire Virender Sharma raising his finger, though there was daylight between bat and ball.

The batter was sure that he did not nick it, as he tried persuading his partner to take a review. Zeeshan Ali explained that he heard some noise and denied Anshy from taking the review. The batter walked back disappointed as he was sure he did not nick the ball, and replays vindicated his frustration.

There was a huge gap between bat and ball, but the snicko showed a spike just as the ball went past the bat. Twitter was shocked as Anshy’s brainfade cost Hong Kong a crucial wicket, and the side endured a bad start.
