Sunrisers Hyderabad notched up a six-wicket win over Lucknow Super Giants at the Ekana Stadium in Lucknow on Monday to end the home side's hopes of making the IPL 2025 playoffs. Abhishek Sharma starred with the bat with a 20-ball 59 after Eshan Malinga’s fine spell restricted LSG to 205/7.

‌Batting first, Lucknow Super Giants started on a bright note with openers Mitchell Marsh (65 off 39 balls) and Aiden Markram (61 off 38) putting on a 115-run partnership off just 63 balls. LSG went through a lull in the middle phase after the openers were dismissed after making half-centuries. The home side managed just 62 runs between overs 10 and 18 as SRH, led by Eshan Malinga (2/28) put in a spirited bowling performance to pull things back. Nicholas Pooran was back in form after a string of poor outings as he scored a 26-ball 45 to take LSG to 205/7 in their allotted 20 overs.

But the target looked inadequate with Abhishek Sharma starting off in blazing fashion scoring boundaries at will during the powerplay. The left-handed opener smashed two sixes and four fours while Ishan Kishan scored two fours and a six as SRH raced to 72/1 at the end of six overs. Abhishek showed no signs of slowing down as he welcomed Ravi Bishnoi into the attack with four consecutive sixes in his first over to go past his 50 in just 18 balls. Though he was dismissed in the next over to Digvesh Rathi, who gave him a fiery sendoff, the middle order duo of Heinrich Klaasen and Kamindu Mendis ensured that SRH coasted to a comfortable win with a 55-run partnership with 10 balls to spare. With the win, SRH made sure that LSG joined them in the list of teams that are out of contention for a playoff spot in IPL 2025.
