Bowlers always use the short ball as an intimidating tactic in the game of cricket, and England captain Ben Stokes was at it against India in Manchester. The all-rounder shocked Gill with a nasty bouncer, with the batter injuring his hand before the ball went on to shake the helmet grill.

‌Shubman Gill and KL Rahul looked solid after taking the fight against England in the fourth test at Old Trafford in Manchester to the final day. Resuming at their overnight score of 174/2, the pair added 14 runs in the first seven overs before England captain Ben Stokes sent back Rahul after catching the opener plumb in front.

The England all-rounder was pumped up as Washington Sundar joined skipper Gill in the middle. Stokes completely surprised Gill with an awkward ball off the first delivery of his next over. Pitched on short of a length area, the ball rose steeply as it chased the Indian skipper as he tried to fend it off.

But the incoming delivery hit the index finger of the batter’s right hand before going on to hit the top of his helmet. He immediately pulled out his bottom hand with a small piece of debris flying from the top of his helmet.

Gill was shaken and jumped away from the wicket as he looked in visible pain, with Stokes running in towards the batter to check on him. But the Indian captain quickly recovered as the physio was out and taped his hand before the batter went through the concussion protocols.

Twitter was on the edge as Stokes surprised his counterpart with a nasty rising one.
