The Women's World Cup 2025 has officially begun, and it is being hosted by India and Sri Lanka. Starting off the tournament, the Indian team is currently going against Sri Lanka in the first game. And with the aim to win the World Cup for the very first time, the team also looks strong.

However, whenever someone talks about the World Cup, . It was also the last time an Indian team won the 50-over World Cup. After that, they surely have come close to the same but never got a chance to lay their hands on it.

Taking a look at the start that Indian team received in the 2025 Women's World Cup, fans are replicating it with the Indian team in the 2011 World Cup. Pratika Rawal and Smriti Mandhana scored their first boundary in the 2025 Women's World Cup in a similar way to Virender Sehwag and Sachin Tendulkar in the 2011 World Cup.

1. India in 2011 World Cup

India had its most successful campaign in the 2011 World Cup. Having star players such as Virender Sehwag, Sachin Tendulkar, Virat Kohli, Yuvraj Singh, and many more in the batting order puts the team at the top. Along with that, the bowling unit was also strong with the inclusion of players such as Munaf Patel, Yusuf Pathan, Zaheer Khan, and more.

Since there were more teams in the 2011 World Cup, the Indian team was in Group B. In the group stages, the team asserted dominance. The team finished 2nd in the table with 4 wins and a loss in 6 matches. MS Dhoni led the team to the playoffs of the tournament with his cool and calm captaincy.

India had now finally reached the playoffs of the tournament. But their next challenge was going against the arch-rivals, Pakistan. Pakistan finished at the top of the Group A standings, winning 5 of the 6 games and losing just one. Known for its dominant form against Pakistan, India defeated them by 29 runs in the semi-final, reaching the final match.

Later, India had to face Sri Lanka in the final clash. Batting first, the Sri Lankan team posted a total of 274 runs for the loss of 6 wickets. India had to chase down the massive target, and Sri Lanka also had depth in its bowling line-up.

2. Can Women Repeat Men’s 2011 Feat?

With the 2025 Women's World Cup starting, the question is whether the Indian team could repeat what the Men's team did in 2011. It would be great for the fans to finally see the Indian team lift the World Cup. Moreover, taking the home ground advantage would be helpful to the Indian team across all games.

All eyes will be on the team's matches against teams such as Australia and England, which have dominated the Women's World Cup. With India and Sri Lanka jointly hosting the tournament, fans anticipate the Indian team to end its trophy jinx.
