Marcus Stoinis had the umpire bewildered as he came on to bowl his first over during the first T20I against New Zealand at Bay Oval in Mount Maunganui. The Australian all-rounder removed both his jerseys and handed them to the umpire before realising he was walking back in his inners.

‌Australia put New Zealand on the back foot early in the first T20I after opting to bowl at Bay Oval in Mount Maunganui on Wednesday. The pace duo of Josh Hazlewood and Ben Dwarshuis picked up three wickets in two overs to reduce the hosts to 6/3.

Hazlewood dismissed Tim Seifert in the second ball of the game while the left-arm seamer picked up two wickets in two balls to hand the Aussies the early advantage. With conditions aiding fast bowling, Aussie captain Marsh decided to introduce medium pacer Marcus Stoinis in the fifth over itself.

It was blustery and cold, as Stoinis and many other players preferred to wear an additional layer of clothing over their original ones. He stopped by the umpire to hand over the full-sleeved jersey before walking to his bowling mark.

Just as he started his walk, the Aussie all-rounder realised something was not right. The umpire shared the same feeling as the players, and the crowd all had a quick laugh, with Stoinis walking back to the umpire with a sheepish smile.

The medium pacer had accidentally handed over both his uppers to the umpire as he started walking in his inners. The umpire quickly handed over the jersey to Stoinis, who embarrassingly wore it back before proceeding to bowl his first ball.

Twitter was in splits as Stoinis, though accidental, produced a lighter moment in a high-octane clash.
